The Chosen is a cutting-edge historical drama that tells the story of Jesus Christ (Jonathan Roumie) as told by his followers. Amidst the Roman tyranny in first-century Israel, the seven-season series offers a genuine and personal glimpse into Jesus' life and teachings.

The actual events of Jesus Christ's Gospels serve as the basis for The Chosen. Some dates and places have been shortened or merged. Character backstories and dialogue have been added. Nonetheless, the Bible, historical background, and creative imagination are all intended to bolster the veracity and purpose of the texts. It is recommended that viewers read the Bible.

My reaction to the said episodes

As a Christian, such shows provide us with additional learning about the life of Jesus. Although not everything in this show aligns perfectly with the Bible, it is certainly better to read the Bible to understand the truth of this show. I first saw this show on Netflix when I was looking for something to watch about the Lord Jesus Christ. It was my first time watching a series about His life, as these are often just movies, which is why I was truly encouraged to watch it.

It's delightful because I have become more familiar with the disciples, as I used to be truly confused about who they were. However, because of this, I have come to appreciate them and their way of life, to some extent. I also got to know Mary Magdalene, who, to be honest, has had a negative image in the eyes of others, often being compared to women of ill repute, but here one can truly understand who she is. There are scenes in episodes 4 and 5 that made me cry. I felt the power of Jesus and the blessings He bestows upon people, even though we are undeserving. I was overwhelmed with joy, sorrow, and a mix of emotions. I closed my eyes as if He were speaking to me, which made me cry even more.

I imagine myself being there, alongside Him while I observe the miracles He performs. It is truly astonishing and overwhelming. It is the kind of feeling that is difficult to comprehend. I wondered, what if I had lived during those times, would I have known Him? I was deeply moved because I feel that His love was immensely given to the people. I also saw here His simple way of living, which the Israelites did not expect for the Messiah they were waiting for.

I still have much to learn and I am truly looking forward to it because I want to know how closely this series aligns with the Bible. I am excited because this series has a different approach compared to those I have previously watched. I pray that this show will truly base itself on the Bible throughout so as not to mislead its viewers. Perhaps the best advice I can give is that even while watching this, it is still best to rely on the Bible because there lies the true truth as it is the Word of God.
